Steve Martin and Martin Short to Perform in Virginia Beach on April 10

Steve Martin, Martin Short bring comedy to Virginia Beach after COVID cancellation

Steve Martin and Martin Short are returning to Virginia Beach next spring with their touring comedy show, The Best of Steve Martin & Martin Short. The duo will perform at The Dome on April 10 at 8 p.m. This marks a return for the comedians, who had to cancel a Hampton Roads date for a touring show, “The Dukes of Funnytown!,” after Martin contracted COVID.

Their upcoming show, which runs about an hour and 40 minutes, will feature a mix of scripted material and live music, with Martin playing a bit of banjo. “Our goal is entertainment, laughs and, you know, living up to our glorious reputations,” Martin said. Neither comedian revealed the specific premises, plots, or characters attendees can expect, but Martin confirmed the scripted material is new for this tour.

This isn’t the first time they’ve starred together. They’ve been teaming up since the 1980s, with notable collaborations including voicing the high priests Hotep and Huy in DreamWorks Animation’s The Prince of Egypt, and appearing together on Saturday Night Live. They also starred as the father and eccentric wedding planner in the hit film Father of the Bride, and are known for their roles in Three Amigos!.

A Chemistry Forged in Decades of Collaboration

Their touring partnership began in 2015 with the live show A Very Stupid Conversation, which garnered praise for the duo’s easy chemistry and interplay. “I think that’s what we’re trying to achieve, and I think we’ve achieved it,” Short said of their current goal to deliver a “fabulous, fabulous, fabulous evening” for audiences.

Ticket prices start at $118.50. The show will be held at 400 20th St., Virginia Beach. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.com.
