Three men are in custody following a Tuesday confrontation in Carson City where a routine search for a burglary suspect devolved into a standoff involving a bottle of vodka and a physical struggle. According to booking reports from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, as reported by Carson Now, the incident began in the 1000 block of North Stewart, where deputies were hunting for a man in dark clothing carrying a backpack.
A bottle of vodka and a struggle on North Plaza Street
The scene shifted to North Plaza Street, where deputies spotted a man matching the burglary description. While the officer engaged that individual, the investigation expanded toward a gas station parking lot. There, deputies noticed a backpack sitting beside a car and five individuals inside the vehicle.
One of those men, a 32-year-old known to the deputies from previous encounters, became the center of the conflict. When ordered to exit the vehicle, the man refused. Instead, he reached into the backseat, produced a large bottle of vodka, and attempted to unscrew the lid. Despite direct orders to stop and step out of the car, the man remained defiant.
The standoff ended when the deputy physically pulled the man from the vehicle by his shirt to place him under arrest. The report emphasizes that deputies had to maintain control over all five people in the car and the individual in the street to ensure safety during the extraction.
The 32-year-old’s bail for obstructing was set at $1,137. Two other men, aged 35 and 45, were also arrested at the scene for misdemeanor obstructing and being under the influence in public, with their bail set higher at $1,596 each.
Drones and K9s find trespasser in unfinished building
While the North Plaza incident was defined by confrontation, a separate arrest Tuesday night was a matter of high-tech persistence. At 8:39 p.m., deputies responded to the 1000 block of North Stewart Street after an alarm company reported camera footage of an intruder inside an unfinished building.
- K9 Unit: Deployed to track the scent of the intruder across the property.
- Audio Announcements: Deputies broadcasted commands throughout the complex, which went unanswered.
- Drone Surveillance: An aerial drone eventually located the man sleeping on the first floor on the east side of the building.
Carson City woman arrested for violating suspended sentence
The Tuesday booking logs were rounded out by the arrest of a 33-year-old Carson City woman. Unlike the others, her arrest wasn’t the result of a street encounter but a legal failure; she was booked for violating the conditions of a suspended sentence. She is currently held without bail pending a hearing.
All subjects mentioned in the Sheriff’s Office reports are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
