Two boys were injured in a shooting on the west side of Indianapolis late Saturday night, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Officers responded to the 1600 block of North Warman Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, police discovered two victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, as reported by WISH-TV.
IMPD Capt. Richard Ray stated that the preliminary investigation suggests the gunfire originated from a vehicle passing the two boys. Authorities have not yet identified a make, model, or description of the vehicle involved, nor have they named any suspects in connection with the incident.
Capt. Ray emphasized the complexity of addressing gun violence within the city, noting that law enforcement efforts are insufficient without community partnership. “Indy gun violence is a challenge law enforcement cannot solve alone,” Ray told reporters, as noted in coverage by both WISH-TV and conven.org.
The incident has prompted a renewed call for parental vigilance and communication. Capt. Ray urged families to maintain an active dialogue regarding their children’s whereabouts and social circles to help mitigate the risk of violence.
“It’s a burden that a community should not have to carry by itself. Public safety is a shared responsibility,” Ray said.
He further advised parents to ensure they have a reliable way to contact their children at any time. As the investigation remains active, the IMPD is requesting that anyone with information regarding the shooting or the suspect vehicle contact police immediately.
