Two Goals from Pellerin and Hurry Lead Knights Past Dartmouth, 4-1 – Clarkson Athletics

Clarkson’s Dominance Continues with 4-1 Victory over Dartmouth

Clarkson University Women’s Hockey extended its winning streak to eight games with a 4-1 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday, showcasing tactical precision and offensive energy. The Golden Knights secured their second conference win of the season, while Dartmouth suffered its second straight loss, dropping to 0-2 in league play.

The win represents a key achievement for Clarkson, which improved to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in ECAC Hockey play. Dartmouth fell to 2-3-1 on the season and 0-2-0 in conference games.

The First Period: Clarkson’s Explosive Start

The Golden Knights wasted no time establishing dominance, scoring twice in the final six minutes of the first period. Jessie Pellerin opened the scoring at 14:13 when she pounced on a rebound after a shot from the top of the slot. Less than four minutes later, Pellerin added her second goal of the game with a diving backhand after a deflection by Manon Le Scodan.

Clarkson’s third goal of the game came at 9:18 in the second frame, when Keira Hurry scored on the power play. A screen from Le Scodan allowed Hurry to receive a pass from Janelle Evans and Morgan Walton, culminating in a clean shot from the top of the slot. The goal extended Clarkson’s lead to 3-0 and showcased the team’s power play efficiency.

Dartmouth’s Response and Clarkson’s Resilience

Dartmouth responded swiftly, scoring its lone goal of the game at 10:06 in the second period. Sydney Putrah’s shot from the blue line rebounded to Addy Cowan, who capitalized by firing a shot past Kalia Pharand. The goal provided a brief spark for the Big Green, but Clarkson’s defense, anchored by Pharand’s 23 saves, held firm. Dartmouth managed 24 shots on goal compared to Clarkson’s 41.

The third period saw Dartmouth attempt to mount a comeback, pulling their goalie midway through a power play to cut the deficit to two goals. However, Keira Hurry sealed the victory with a shorthanded goal after gaining possession behind the Dartmouth net and firing a wrist shot off the glass that traveled the length of the ice, bouncing off the post and into the net.

Conference Implications

The Big Green’s 0-2 conference record contrasts sharply with Clarkson’s 2-0 record. Dartmouth’s 0-for-5 power play performance in this game will be critical.

The game also highlighted the importance of goaltending in close contests. Kalia Pharand’s 23 saves were instrumental in preserving Clarkson’s lead, while Michaela Hesova’s 37 stops for Dartmouth were not enough to overcome the Golden Knights’ offensive output. The contrast in goaltending performance demonstrates the fine margins that often decide hockey games.
