Jefferson Parish Intersection Turns Deadly Friday Night
Two motorcyclists died in separate collisions over the weekend across the New Orleans area, according to reports from the Louisiana State Police.
The first fatal crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Friday in Jefferson Parish. A 30-year-old man from Marrero was riding a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle east on U.S. 90 near Homeplace Drive.
As he approached, a Mitsubishi Outlander traveling west attempted to make a left turn onto Homeplace Drive, crossing his path. The motorcycle struck the SUV, and the rider—who was wearing a helmet—was pronounced dead at the scene.
SUV Occupants Escape With Minor Injuries
Louisiana State Police noted that the driver and the four passengers inside the Mitsubishi were wearing seatbelts and sustained only minor injuries. Toxicology samples were collected from the scene for analysis.
Midnight Collision on the Crescent City Connection
Hours later, early Saturday morning at approximately 1 a.m., a second fatal motorcycle accident unfolded on the Crescent City Connection Bridge.

A 50-year-old man from New Orleans was operating a 2016 Harley-Davidson traveling in the left westbound lane. According to investigators, a disabled vehicle had stopped in that lane, forcing a 2024 Nissan Sentra to come to a halt behind it. The Harley-Davidson struck the rear of the Nissan at a high rate of speed.
Helmet Standards and Ongoing Troopers’ Inquiries
The rider of the Harley-Davidson was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers confirmed that he was wearing a helmet, though it was not approved by the Department of Transportation.
The driver of the Nissan was wearing a seatbelt and escaped uninjured. Toxicology samples were likewise gathered from this incident.
