20-Year Air Force Veteran Paul Wayne Lutton Passes Away

Paul Wayne Lutton, a United States Air Force veteran with a career spanning two decades and multiple continents, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, in Wilmington, Delaware.

Two Decades of Global Service

Lutton’s military career was defined by its breadth. Over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, he was stationed in a diverse array of strategic locations, including Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Taipei, Alaska, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Nebraska.

After settling in Columbus, Ohio, he began a career as a life insurance agent for John Hancock, a role he maintained until his second retirement.

A Return to Pennsylvania Roots

In 1987, Paul and his wife, Carol, returned to Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Lutton stayed busy, driving for Devon Prep School and maintaining a daily ritual of morning coffee with local friends—the kind of grassroots social cohesion that is increasingly rare in modern suburban life.

His commitment to faith was equally tangible. Both Paul and Carol were deeply integrated into CHVRCH Newtown Square, where Paul’s leadership extended to serving as a board member.

The Statistics of a Lifelong Athlete

Beyond his professional and civic duties, Lutton was defined by an obsessive, scholarly passion for sports. A former baseball and basketball player during his school years, he evolved into a fan whose memory for data rivaled professional broadcasters. Whether it was football, basketball, or baseball, Lutton rarely missed a game, treating the statistics of the sport with the same precision he likely applied to his military and insurance careers.

He is survived by a sprawling family legacy, including his sons, Allen of Columbus, Ohio, and Paul William (and wife Pamela) of Wilmington, Delaware. His influence extends to grandchildren—Joe, Eric, Carol Loring, Tiffany, Kassidy Raver, and Jamee in Ohio, and Alex and Katie in Washington—as well as 13 great-grandchildren.

Community Gathers for Lutton's Funeral and Military Honors

The community will gather to honor Lutton’s life and service on Friday, November 20, 2026. The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at CHVRCH Newtown Square, located at 3722 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073.

Following the service, Lutton will be laid to rest with full military honors at 2:00 p.m. at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.

In a gesture that aligns with his lifelong commitment to service, the family has requested that donations be made in Paul’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting first responders and their families.
