Louisville Hit-and-Run Leaves Woman Dead on Bardstown Road as Driver Faces Murder Charge
A Louisville Halloween celebration turned fatal early Saturday morning when a speeding vehicle struck a woman crossing Bardstown Road, prompting an arrest and nine criminal charges against a 22-year-old man. According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded to the intersection of Bardstown Road and Grinstead Drive at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2026, where the victim had sustained severe blunt-force trauma.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to the University of Louisville Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:54 a.m. While the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office initially reported the victim was two years old, Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis later clarified that investigators believe the victim was in her 20s. Loved ones told reporters that the victim, identified by the coroner’s office as Montazja Langley, had spent Friday night out with friends celebrating the holiday.
Arrest and Multiple Felony Charges Filed Against Bryson Barber
Louisville Metro Police arrested 22-year-old Bryson Barber in connection with the fatal collision, booking him on a total of nine distinct charges. Barber faces counts of murder, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid involving death or serious physical injury, tampering with physical evidence, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, speeding 26 mph or more over the speed limit, possession of marijuana, excessive windshield or window tinting, and failure to maintain required insurance.
Witness accounts from the scene described erratic, dangerous driving moments before the impact. Demariae Ray, who witnessed the aftermath, told WDRB+WAVE that hundreds of people were gathered in the area when a silver sedan came roaring down the corridor. “He was flying. Like doing at least 70,” Ray said, expressing shock at the incident. Police noted that after the crash occurred, the driver fled the scene on foot before authorities took him into custody.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeals for Information
While police clarified that the victim was in her 20s rather than a toddler as initially released by the coroner’s office, neither the coroner nor police spokespeople have elaborated on how the initial age discrepancy occurred.
