WWE main roster star Dominik Mysterio is reportedly growing frustrated with his creative direction and the stark contrast between his serious presentation as the top champion in Lucha Libre AAA and his comedy-heavy booking on Monday Night Raw, following a recent loss at SummerSlam.

Creative Disconnect Between Monday Night Raw and Lucha Libre AAA

Dominik Mysterio finds himself at the center of a growing creative disconnect within professional wrestling. While enjoying a dominant run as the top star in Lucha Libre AAA—where he is roughly one month away from holding the AAA Mega Championship for a full year—his main roster television assignments have left fans and reportedly the wrestler himself questioning his trajectory according to an update from False Finish.

The frustration culminated on the second night of SummerSlam. Mysterio faced Danhausen in a critically panned Human Monies on a Pole Match that featured outside interference from Joe Hendry and ended in a loss for the reigning AAA champion. The booking choice sparked heavy criticism from analysts and fans who saw the comedy feud as a step down for a top-tier titleholder.

The alleged vexation marks the second time this summer that creative concerns surrounding Mysterio have surfaced publicly. Insiders on WrestleVotes Radio previously indicated at the beginning of June that there was internal disappointment over lackluster creative for both Mysterio and reigning Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan. However, this marks the first instance where the reported unhappiness has been linked directly to the talent.

Morgan captured the Women’s World Title at WrestleMania 42 back in April, but was essentially benched from a creative standpoint after rival Stephanie Vaquer required time off due to injury. Liv remained on television, but wasn’t prominently featured until she nonsensically entered herself in the Queen of the Ring, a tournament that determined her own SummerSlam opponent. While Morgan did ultimately lose in the Queen of the Ring finals at Night of Champions, she defeated IYO SKY in the rematch last weekend in Minneapolis to retain her Women’s World Championship in her first, and to date, only televised title defense of her 112-day reign.

Mysterio’s main roster journey has seen notable shifts since WWE officially acquired AAA and the second-generation performer won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41, soaking in the adulation from the travelling crowd. Yet, with little to get viewers excited since losing the title to Penta back in January, his work in Mexico has gotten people talking. Mysterio has been a huge hit in AAA since he first crossed over to the company in the summer of 2025. His last televised win on the main roster occurred back at the start of June.

He is currently preparing to defend his AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano at Triplemania 34, coming up on Sunday, September 13, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Business officially picked up this past Monday night on WWE Raw when both Becky Lynch and Stephanie Vaquer returned to the Red Brand and made it known that they were coming after Liv’s championship, signaling a crowded and competitive championship picture across the board.
