Air Force secured a 1-0 victory over Colorado College in the fifth annual City for Champions Cup at Weidner Field, reclaiming the C4C trophy for the first time since 2023.
Annika Jost delivered the game’s deciding moment just 1 minute and 36 seconds into the match, converting a penalty kick past Colorado College goalkeeper Regan Wallace. The scoring opportunity materialized after Chase Borntreger drew a foul in the box from Dayleigh Bos, sending Jost to the spot where she buried her shot low into the right corner.
The early strike disrupted Colorado College’s momentum and handed the Tigers their first loss during conference play. Prior to the defeat, the Tigers had rattled off a 6-0-1 run through their first seven conference contests, sliding their overall record to 8-5-4 while Air Force improved to 11-4-1 overall and 6-2-0 in Mountain West play.
Possession Dominated, Defenses Held Firm
Despite surrendering the game’s only goal in the opening minutes, Colorado College spent the remainder of the contest dictating the flow of play. During the first half, the Tigers outshot Air Force 6-2. Three of those attempts found the target, but Falcons goalkeeper Sydney Nelms turned them all away. Wallace faced no further shots on target through the opening 45 minutes.
The pattern persisted after the break. Colorado College maintained persistent possession dominance throughout the second half, generating another six shots and putting three more on frame. Nelms again slammed the door, racking up six total saves to preserve the shutout.
Air Force managed just two second-half shots, both of which missed the target. Ella Ashouri paced the Tigers with three shots, including one on target, while teammates Sophie Mayne and Kendall Memoly contributed two attempts apiece.
Looking Ahead to Stewart Field
The loss marks an abrupt halt to Colorado College’s conference streak, but the schedule offers no time for rest. The Tigers return to action on Sunday, November 1, hosting Grand Canyon University at Stewart Field for their final home match of the season, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
