Amneal Pharmaceuticals to Expand New Jersey Operations With $240M Investment

Amneal Pharmaceuticals Secures $60 Million State Tax Award for Piscataway Expansion

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority board recently approved approximately $60 million in tax credits to support a major manufacturing expansion by Amneal Pharmaceuticals, according to state records. The publicly traded biopharmaceutical company plans to invest more than $240 million in eligible capital improvements over three years.

The project, sited in Piscataway, is expected to create more than 330 new full-time jobs. This initiative significantly bolsters domestic manufacturing capacity for complex medicines while reinforcing New Jersey’s position in the pharmaceutical sector.

Founded in Paterson in 2002 by brothers Chirag and Chintu Patel, Amneal has grown from its local roots into a global biopharmaceutical enterprise. The company maintains an extensive footprint across the state, housing corporate, research, development, and manufacturing operations locally. Today, Amneal manages a portfolio of more than 300 generic, specialty, and biosimilar medicines, delivering upward of 160 million prescriptions annually.

Transforming Piscataway Through Integrated Campus Development

The planned expansion goes far beyond a simple facility upgrade. The project involves the comprehensive renovation of eight buildings, which will ultimately operate as a single, integrated manufacturing campus. This facility will house production, quality control, and logistics under one unified umbrella.

Such infrastructure updates are explicitly designed to support the continued growth of Amneal’s Affordable Medicines business. This includes complex generics, women’s health products, and upcoming product launches, alongside the ongoing advancement of the company’s biosimilars portfolio. Specifically, the capital investment funds the expansion of manufacturing capabilities for transdermal patches, biosimilars, and pharmaceutical injectables.

By scaling up these specialized operations domestically, the company aims to strengthen the reliability of the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain. That push toward localized resilience sits at the core of the state’s economic development strategy.

Amneal Qualifies for $60.56 Million in Tax Credits

The tax credits were approved under the Next New Jersey Manufacturing Program, administered by the NJEDA. Because Amneal’s proposed capital investment and job creation figures far exceeded the program’s strict minimum thresholds, the company qualified for an award totaling $60.56 million distributed over the course of five years.

New Jersey is where Amneal began, and it remains central to our growth and our commitment to patients. We are proud to make a significant, long-term investment in domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing, expanding our capacity to produce complex medicines, create high-quality jobs, and strength the America’s medicine supply, said Amneal co-CEOs Chirag and Chintu Patel.

State leadership views the project as a vital validation of local economic policy. According to reports from Trade & Industry Development, Governor Sherrill emphasized that targeted tax credits and streamlined business agendas help ensure companies can plant deep roots in the Garden State. Meanwhile, NJEDA Chief Executive Officer Evan Weiss noted that the initiative directly bolsters the state’s economy and drives meaningful job growth, cementing the region’s status as a prominent hub for pharmaceutical innovation.

Amneal Shares Rise over 67% This Year

The state-backed expansion arrives during a period of strong financial performance for the biopharmaceutical firm. Trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market Composite, shares of Amneal have risen more than 67% so far this year. The company currently commands a market capitalization of $7.35 billion.

As construction and renovations get underway on the new Piscataway campus, the phased hiring and capital deployment schedule will unfold over the next three years. This timeline ties the company’s private market trajectory directly to regional infrastructure development.
