A New Creative Outlet at Fowler Branch
Teens and adults with cognitive differences are invited to attend a new weekly Arts and Crafts Club at the Fowler branch every Tuesday. The Concord Free Public Library is launching “Art for All,” a program hosted at the Fowler branch every Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The sessions offer a structured environment for participants to explore various mediums. Activities include crafting greeting cards, playing drawing games, and producing work destined for local community exhibitions. The initiative is facilitated by members of the Art for All group, an organization specializing in inclusive creative programming.
Removing Barriers to Participation
This launch is part of the library system’s mission to ensure facilities and programming remain open to all residents. The library’s official accessibility policy focuses on dismantling hurdles to its resources and services, moving beyond mere physical accommodations to foster cognitive and sensory-friendly environments.
The library administration actively encourages patrons who require adjustments to reach out via email or telephone. This feedback loop allows staff to tailor support to individual needs, whether that means adjusting the pace of instruction or modifying the environment for specific Art for All sessions.
Backing Inclusive Arts Education
Financial support for the program comes from a collaborative model involving the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library and the Concord Free Public Library Corporation. These groups underwrite the total cost, keeping the club free for all participants.
Expanding Equity in the Suburbs
The program provides a consistent, predictable schedule designed to accommodate the needs of its participants while fostering a collaborative environment for local artists. It serves as a modern iteration of the library’s long-standing commitment to serving all members of its community.
