Blue Compass RV Acquires Cheyenne Camping Center in Iowa

Blue Compass RV Expands into Quad Cities

Blue Compass RV has acquired Cheyenne Camping Center, a family-owned dealership that has operated in the Quad Cities market for more than 60 years. The transaction, as reported by RV PRO, marks the company’s second location in Iowa and continues a trend of consolidation within the recreational vehicle retail sector. The facility now operates under the name Blue Compass RV Quad Cities.

The dealership occupies a significant footprint along Interstate 80, situated directly across from the “World’s Largest Truckstop.” The site spans 17.5 acres and features a 43,000-square-foot building. This infrastructure includes an indoor showroom, a dedicated parts and accessories department, and 20 service bays designed to handle maintenance and repairs.

Growth Amid Market Challenges

The acquisition comes at a time when the broader RV industry faces notable economic headwinds. Despite these pressures, Blue Compass RV has maintained an aggressive expansion strategy. Jon Ferrando, the CEO and President of Blue Compass RV, noted the strategic importance of the location, emphasizing that the firm continues to grow even as the market remains challenging.

Blue Compass RV continues to grow despite a challenging RV market. We are pleased to expand our presence in Iowa and enter the Quad Cities with a dealership strategically positioned along I-80.

For customers, the transition to Blue Compass ownership means access to a national network of dealerships. The company stated that the new location will integrate into its broader ecosystem, offering an expanded product lineup and enhanced service capabilities intended to support owners from the initial purchase through the duration of their vehicle ownership.

The Economic Stakes for Local Buyers

For the local market in Iowa, the shift from a long-standing family-owned business to a national corporate entity signals a change in the regional retail landscape. Dealerships like the former Cheyenne Camping Center have historically served as hubs for local outdoor enthusiasts, providing both sales and long-term service support.

While the change in ownership brings the benefits of a larger inventory and standardized service protocols, it also alters the competitive environment for smaller, independent shops in the region. Consumers in the Quad Cities can now leverage the scale of a national player, though the long-term impact on local service pricing and personalized customer relationships remains a factor for the community to navigate.

The acquisition highlights the ongoing consolidation of the RV sector, where national chains are increasingly acquiring established local dealerships to secure prime real estate and capture regional market share. As Blue Compass RV incorporates this 17.5-acre facility into its operations, the focus remains on whether the transition can maintain the reputation established over the dealership’s six-decade history while scaling its service offerings to meet the demands of a national consumer base.
