A damaged 4-inch gas main struck during fiber optic installation prompted an emergency response and road closures near E. Lake Forest Drive and S. Tecoma Place in Boise, idahonews.com reported.
Boise Fire and Intermountain Gas crews rushed to the scene to handle the rupture. Emergency responders quickly shut off the gas flow, bringing the active leak under control. Even though the primary hazard was contained, several streets remained shut down due to physical damage inflicted on the roadway during the incident. Fire crews maintained a continuous presence, monitoring nearby homes and commercial buildings for any trapped gas or residual safety concerns.
An Ada Alert went out to the surrounding neighborhood, urging local residents to stay inside their homes or steer clear of the blocked zone entirely. While utility workers secured the pipe, families faced restricted access to their properties. Impacted residents could only return to their homes on foot, as vehicles remained barred from entering the active work zone.
School Precautions and Evacuation Protocol
Officials detected no gas readings inside nearby Trail Wind Elementary School. Out of an abundance of caution, however, school staff walked students over to Le Bois Junior High to safely manage parent pickups away from the cordoned-off streets.

Intermountain Gas personnel remained stationed at the site while crews assessed the pavement damage. Authorities indicated that local residents would receive an official update as soon as the area was cleared for normal vehicle traffic.
State safety officials regularly remind contractors and homeowners that you should call 811 before you dig to prevent damage to any underground utilities.
