Bridgeport Man Pleads Guilty to Supporting Armed Group in Cameroon

Didimus Kimbi, a 37-year-old Bridgeport resident also known as “Samba Ngala,” faces up to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to provide material support to an armed separatist group in central Africa, federal prosecutors announced.

According to release documents from the U.S. Department of Justice, Kimbi admitted to supporting the Ambazonia Defense Forces (ADF)—a separatist organization operating in Cameroon—for more than three years. His federal plea agreement includes a terrorism sentencing enhancement, which increases his potential prison exposure when he is sentenced.

Kimbi Linked Combatants to Weapon Acquisitions

Federal investigators detail a role in which Kimbi served as a logistics node between local combatants and external actors. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia, Kimbi acted as an intermediary linking ground commanders on the ground in Cameroon with individuals authorized to approve weapon acquisitions.

Ground commanders supplied images and pricing details for weaponry directly to Kimbi. Beyond facilitating equipment purchases, Kimbi utilized information gathered from those commanders to draft written operational plans intended to cause harm. Prosecutors stated that these compiled directives were then transmitted directly to ADF leadership.

The violent campaign waged by the group sought to kill, kidnap, maim, or injure people in Cameroon during the multi-year conspiracy.

Federal Prosecution and Investigation Timeline

The investigation into Kimbi’s support network was handled by FBI field offices in Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, and Washington, D.C.

Prosecution of the case is being managed jointly by Deputy Criminal Chief Jarod J. Douglas, Special Counsel to the U.S. Attorney Randolph Bernard, and Trial Attorney Michael Dittoe of the Justice Department’s National Security Division.
