Full-time municipal positions with hourly pay ranging from $19.02 to $24.72 are now open across the City of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, as local officials staff up crews dedicated to infrastructure upkeep.
The City of Broken Arrow is hiring service workers to assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of the city’s streets and stormwater system. The roles involve heavy physical labor across various locations within city limits, operating heavy machinery, and responding to weather emergencies.
Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, alongside one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training. Candidates are also required to hold, or have the ability to readily obtain, a valid Class A CDL driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma to operate heavy municipal vehicles and equipment.
Daily Operations and Safety-Sensitive Duties
The position is classified as safety-sensitive, subjecting workers to random drug testing under municipal policies. Daily responsibilities span a wide operational scope, from minor roadside maintenance to heavy civil repairs.
Crews routinely measure, assemble, and set forms for concrete, pour and finish flatwork, and repair or build storm drain boxes and pipes. Workers also operate an excavator, backhoe, front-end loader, and patch trucks to fix potholes and leaking pipes. During winter weather events, these workers operate snow plows to keep municipal routes clear. Additional duties include spraying pesticides for mosquito control, mowing grass, laying sod, repairing traffic control devices, and removing dead animals and storm debris from roadways.
Physical demands for the role are exceptionally high. Tasks frequently require balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, and lifting or pulling materials weighing up to 150 pounds. Candidates must pass a drug screening and a fitness-to-work physical examination before appointment.
