Buckeye police say fiancé orchestrated attack on mother in home

A Buckeye, Arizona mother was attacked inside her home on October 16 in what local investigators describe as a plot orchestrated by her fiancé and a man he met online. The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. near Southern Avenue and Miller Road, when the woman was at home with her two children and an unknown man walked into her home and attacked her.

The victim managed to fight off the intruder, who fled before law enforcement arrived. Carissa Planalp of the Buckeye Police Department stated in an October 29 news release that detectives identified the suspect as 20-year-old Adrian Ayala of Goodyear, arresting him at his home the following day.

The Online Agreement and Arrests

Following his apprehension, Ayala allegedly told law enforcement questioning him that he arrived at the victim’s residence after connecting with her fiancé online and making a pact to carry out a sexual assault against the victim.

Investigators seized electronic devices from both Ayala and Dyer. A review of the digital data revealed evidence that Ayala and Dyer were communicating about the planned assault. Police arrested Zarian Dyer on Thursday, October 29, while he was at work near Roosevelt Street and Verrado Way.

“This was a terrifying ordeal for them. For this woman and her young children.”

Planalp said, noting that surveillance footage captured the mother fighting off Ayala in her driveway.

Charges and Unanswered Questions

Dyer is accused of several charges including aggravated assault, sexual abuse, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping and conspiracy. In response to the allegations, Ayala’s legal counsel stated that the victim’s significant other had welcomed him over to take part in a roleplaying activity.

Police confirmed that the victim had no idea about the assault scheme. Investigators are still searching for a motive in the case.

Authorities praised the mother for being observant during the attack, noting that she provided responding officers with a description of the suspect vehicle and a partial plate. Those details gave detectives an immediate starting point to track down the suspects.
