Cal Poly Humboldt Volleyball Swept by Cal Poly Pomona in Road Match

Cal Poly Humboldt’s volleyball squad ran into a dominant home-court defense in Pomona, dropping a three-set match to Cal Poly Pomona inside Kellogg Arena to wrap up their Southern California road trip.

The Broncos secured the California Collegiate Athletic Association victory by set scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-14, according to the official humboldtathletics.com match report. The sweep drops the Lumberjacks to 10-11 overall and 4-7 in conference play as the season hits a critical November stretch.

Battling Through the Kellogg Arena Defense

Humboldt found its most effective offensive rhythm in the opening frame, manufacturing 10 kills while hitting .154. Emma Fauth shouldered the offensive load for the Lumberjacks, putting down a team-high seven kills while committing just a single error on 17 attacks to finish with a .353 hitting percentage. Fauth also chipped in six digs and an assist to anchor the visitors.

Despite that early push, Cal Poly Pomona tightened its block and pulled away to claim the first set 25-17. The Broncos maintained that momentum in the second, holding Humboldt to eight kills across the final two frames as the offense struggled to find seams in the host’s back row.

Avary Spoja added three kills on nine attempts for a .222 clip, while Graysen Trupp also contributed three kills. Sadie Scott, Phoebe Bland, and Addison Bookstaber each finished with two kills apiece.

Directing the offense, Brielle Wilson handed out 10 assists and picked up Humboldt’s lone service ace of the afternoon. Claire Crawford chipped in six assists alongside four digs, while Kendall Fenstermacher pulled up a match-high 10 digs to lead the back row. At the net, Isabella Hartwig turned away two solo blocks to pace the Lumberjacks’ defense.

Looking Ahead to Native American Heritage Night

The Lumberjacks will now return home to Lumberjack Arena to regroup. They host Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. for the program’s scheduled Native American Heritage Night.
