Carroll College Volleyball Falls to Montana Western in Four Sets

Saints Fall in Four Sets at Montana Western After Early Surge

The Carroll College volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Montana Western on Wednesday evening at the Straugh Gymnasium in Dillon, Montana, as unforced errors derailed an early match advantage, carrollathletics.com reported. The Fighting Saints opened the evening with a strong .220 hitting percentage to claim the first set 25-20, but struggled over the final three frames. With the road loss, Carroll moves to 16-10 overall and 11-8 in conference play, while Montana Western improves to 13-13 and 12-7.

After falling behind 15-14 in the opening frame, the Saints strung together a 7-1 run sparked by multiple kills from Lauren Heuiser. Kills from Alli Devine, Birdie Heuiser, and Kaylen Hay closed out the 25-20 victory. That momentum vanished immediately in the second set. Following an early Carroll lead, the Bulldogs mounted a decisive 9-0 run to seize control of the match, handing the Saints 25-19, 25-14, and 25-21 losses down the stretch. A total of 25 hitting errors plagued Carroll over the final three sets, resulting in an average hitting percentage of just .030.

Stat Line and Individual Leaders

Lauren Heuiser paced the Carroll offense with 12 kills, while Birdie Heuiser and Kaylen Hay each contributed eight. Defensively, the Heuiser sisters anchored the net with 3.0 blocks apiece. Setting duties were split as Jansyn Carrizales handed out 20 assists and Lauren Fox added 17. Fox also collected 13 digs to notch a double-double, and Sofia Kimmel led the back row defensively with a team-high 17 digs.

Road Trip to Montana Tech Awaits

Currently fighting for seeding in the upcoming Frontier Championship, the Saints have little time to dwell on the setback. Carroll travels to Butte, Montana, on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for a 2:00 P.M. match against Montana Tech.
