Car Crashes Into The Rustic Spoon Patio in Virginia Beach
The fact that she sustained those injuries and they weren’t more life threatening is, that’s the miracle in itself,
Ryan Hines, co-owner of The Rustic Spoon, told WTKR following a dramatic crash at the restaurant’s Pleasure House Road location in Virginia Beach.
The incident unfolded Wednesday night when a driver parked in a handicapped spot put his vehicle in drive instead of reverse. The car surged forward, jumping the curb, clearing a bike rack, and smashing through the metal railing of the outdoor dining area. Surveillance footage shared by the restaurant Friday shows the vehicle running directly over a table where two women were seated, pinning one of them underneath. The first responders in our team acted professionally, swiftly,
Hines added regarding the emergency efforts.
First Responders Lift Car to Extract Trapped Customer
Staff members immediately rushed to assist, with a bartender taking charge of the scene to keep the trapped woman calm while others dialed 911. Police and firefighters arrived quickly, shutting down Pleasure House Road as emergency personnel worked to lift the vehicle. Hines, who arrived about 15 minutes after the crash, noted that the responders worked effectively to manage the scene.
According to staff accounts provided to ownership, firefighters utilized jacks to rapidly raise the car and extract the customer. Medical evaluations at the hospital revealed that the victim suffered a massive facial laceration and underwent CAT scans to check for internal bleeding. Miraculously, she sustained no broken bones and was able to return home the same night.
The driver remained at the scene following the collision, and reports suggest the incident was accidental. Virginia Beach police have confirmed they are investigating the accident. Meanwhile, ownership has reached out to both diners, offering them complimentary meals upon their return—though management noted future dining will likely take place indoors. Further details on the incident are available via Anthony Sabella’s reporting on News 3 and WTKR.com.
