A woman was pinned under a car tire after a vehicle crashed through the patio of the Rustic Spoon in Virginia Beach. The crash happened around 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the restaurant located at 1658 Pleasure House Road.
Co-owner Ryan Hines described the incident, stating a Pontiac was parked in a handicapped spot and appears to have been put in drive instead of reverse. The vehicle went up over the curb, hit a bike rack, went through bushes, knocked over a steel railing, and struck a table where two women were sitting. Server Chris Hacker said he heard screaming on the patio and saw the car go up a bicycle ramp and onto a wooden table, pinning one woman under the back tire. Hacker noted an aluminum chair and the table’s structure helped shield her.
Restaurant Staff Responds Quickly
According to Hacker, the Rustic Spoon staff immediately responded to the emergency. “All of our staff came around, like, took the tables out of the way and made sure that the paramedics had room to work,” he said. Hacker praised one of his bartenders, who is trained in emergency response, for helping assess the situation. He also commended Virginia Beach Rescue for their quick arrival.
Victim and Driver Unharmed
“Paramedics showed up within five minutes,” Hacker stated. “Everything was, like, quickly resolved. Then she was taken off in an ambulance.” Hines confirmed that both women at the table are okay, noting they reached out to one of them to check on her well-being. He added that the driver and passenger of the Pontiac were unharmed. Virginia Beach Police said this remains an active investigation by the Traffic Safety Unit.
