Carolyn Jane Norman passes away at age 80
Carolyn Jane Norman, a long-time resident of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Altru Hospital, according to a report from Amundson Funeral Home. She was 80 years old and was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.
Born on September 11, 1946, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Carl and Thelma (Gunderson) Schroeder. Her life was deeply rooted in the local community, having grown up and attended school in East Grand Forks.
A life dedicated to family and community service
Carolyn’s personal and professional life centered on the people around her. After marrying Ron Norman, she focused much of her energy on raising their five children. Beyond her role within her own household, she was a familiar face in the local workforce, having spent many years employed with American Crystal Sugar and Hugo’s Family Marketplace.
Those who knew her described a woman with a distinct personality—kind and loving, yet possessing a “little spicy” edge that often brought laughter to those in her presence. She was known for several specific passions: playing bingo, finding unmatched bargains while thrifting, and taking trips to the lake. For many in the East Grand Forks area, she acted as a second mother, maintaining an open door and a consistent willingness to assist others in need.
Her presence was a constant at local community milestones, from sporting events to school programs, where she was known to cheer on her loved ones. Her family noted that to know her was to love her, describing her as a truly one-of-a-kind individual.
Family survivors and memorial arrangements
She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Ben, Shirley, Ed, Carol, and Darlene.
