Park Improvements Move Forward as Charleston Residents Embrace Fall Weather
As autumn temperatures dip across West Virginia, municipal crews are pressing forward with park and recreation upgrades throughout Charleston, WSAZ reported.
For longtime visitors like John Barth, the local maintenance pays direct dividends. Barth, who has frequented Cato Park for decades, noted that the facility remains a reliable hub for daily exercise regardless of the hour.
“It’s safe. That’s the main thing. I walk in the day, the night, in the morning — whenever I can get out and be healthy,” Barth said.
Targeted Upgrades Across Neighborhood Facilities
The city’s maintenance schedule touches several key recreational zones. At Cato Park, blacktop work is currently underway near the maintenance building, part of ongoing upkeep for the grounds. Barth recalled moving into the neighborhood when he was roughly ten years old, watching the city provide consistent care for the area over the years.
“Makes me feel good. Real good. Like, I’ve lived here most of my life. I think I was 10 years old when we moved in here, and they just keep providing. It goes down, but they always keep it clean. The city does a good job of keeping this nice and clean and safe,” Barth said.
Beyond Cato Park, municipal projects are active at other community hubs. Crews have initiated basketball court paving at the Kanawha City Community Center, while sidewalk improvements are progressing at the Roosevelt Neighborhood Community Center. Meanwhile, new playground equipment has been ordered for Coal Branch Park, Vandalia Park, Sugar Creek Park, and the North Charleston Community Center to expand play spaces for local families.
