Ninety-two years of life in Converse County came to a quiet close on Sunday, October 25, 2026, when Mona Eileen (Bloem) Henson passed away at Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyoming.
Born in Wheatland, Wyoming, on Saturday, September 15, 1934, to Melvin Clayton “Breezy” Bloem and Arlene Vida (Schnase) Fowler, Mona grew up in Douglas and attended Douglas High School.
A Life Tied to Douglas
On October 26, 1953, Mona married Maurice Steve Henson. The couple built a life together, raising a family in Douglas until Steve passed away on June 27, 2000. Mona carried his memory for the next twenty-six years. Passing away beneath the Hunter’s Moon on October 25, 2026, she left this world just one day before what would have been their 73rd wedding anniversary.
For more than thirty years, Mona worked for the school district, where she cooked and prepared school lunches. Outside of work, her daily life revolved around baking cinnamon rolls, tending her garden, watching and listening to birds, supporting Wyoming Cowgirls basketball, and her love for snowmen.
Family remained the centerpiece of her world. Among her enduring personal milestones was the joy of seeing three sets of five generations within her family.
