The Chicago Bears might not be finished reshaping their defense ahead of the upcoming league deadline, with reports pointing toward a potential reunion with a familiar veteran pass rusher.
Last week, ChiCitySports reported that the Bears completed a blockbuster trade with the Tennessee Titans for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick. Chicago surrendered a steep package that included first-round selections in 2027 and 2028 alongside a 2027 fourth-round pick. Despite the high price tag for one of the league’s premier interior linemen, the front office appears willing to stay aggressive before the November 10 trade deadline to solidify a roster making an all-in Super Bowl push while quarterback Caleb Williams plays on his rookie deal.
Tracking the Edge Rusher Market in Los Angeles
Attention has quickly shifted to the perimeter of the defense. According to Bears Wire, NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted that general manager Ryan Poles and his staff are actively evaluating edge defenders across the league, keeping Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack squarely on their radar.
“The Bears may not actually be done… I’m told they are still calling around still looking on the edges of their defense. Wouldn’t be surprised if a Khalil Mack trade was in the offer here. A possible reunion for Mack and the Bears,” Ian Rapoport stated regarding the ongoing discussions.
Mack signed a one-year, $18 million contract with the Chargers in March. While the Chargers initially showed reluctance to become active sellers despite stumbling out of the gate, their stance could soften rapidly following a humbling 24-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams that dropped their record to 0-7.
Weighing a Familiar Reunion in Chicago
A return to Chicago would bring Mack back to the franchise where he spent four productive seasons from 2018 through 2021, earning All-Pro honors twice and establishing himself as a defensive anchor. This season, the veteran pass rusher has recorded 19 tackles and three sacks.

The Bears enter their upcoming matchup against the Seattle Seahawks eager to evaluate how much interior pressure Simmons adds to the front seven. Yet, adding an experienced edge presence like Mack could give the defense the persistent disruption needed to mask lingering vulnerabilities in the secondary.
As the November 10 deadline approaches, the Chargers face a pivotal stretch beginning with a matchup against the Houston Texans, leaving open the question of whether Los Angeles will pivot toward acquiring draft capital for their veteran assets before the window closes.
