Clarksburg moves forward with $500,000 splash pad project
Clarksburg is preparing to break ground on a new recreational asset for Nutter Fort, as city officials begin the search for contractors to build a 4,500-square-foot splash pad at Clarksburg City Park. According to a report from WDTV, the project is estimated to cost more than $500,000 and marks a significant expansion of the park’s current amenities.
The proposed site sits near the existing walking trails, basketball courts, and the Maple Shelter. While this new installation will provide a fresh destination for local families, officials have clarified that it is not intended to replace the current water facility located at Veterans Administration Park in Clarksburg.
The funding structure for this development relies on a combination of federal and local resources. The project will utilize $275,000 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, while the remaining $275,000 is expected to come from a city match using American Rescue Plan Act funds.
New amenities for traveling athletes and local families
The decision to add a splash pad reflects a strategic effort to increase the utility of Clarksburg City Park for various demographics. By adding water-based play to a location already used for organized sports, the city aims to capture a wider range of visitors throughout the day.
“This will add another asset to an already great park,” Clarksburg Superintendent of Parks Doug Comer told Connect-Bridgeport.
Comer noted that the facility will be particularly beneficial for families visiting the area for baseball games or travel sports competitions. Because the splash pad is designed with no water depth, it functions differently than a traditional pool; it will not require a lifeguard on duty, though parks staff will be responsible for ongoing maintenance and regular water safety checks once the site is operational.
Beyond the water feature itself, the construction scope is comprehensive. The project includes essential infrastructure work such as site preparation, utility installation, the construction of a mechanical enclosure, and concrete paving to ensure the new area integrates seamlessly with the park’s existing pathways.
Contractor bidding deadlines and next steps
The city is now entering the procurement phase to select the firm that will execute the construction. For local businesses and contractors, the timeline for participation is relatively tight.

- Bid Deadline: December 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
- Submission Location: Clarksburg City Hall, 222 West Main Street.
As the city manages this transition from planning to construction, the economic impact of the project will be felt through the allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funds, a resource designed to bolster community infrastructure and recovery. The successful selection of a contractor will determine how quickly these planned improvements move from architectural renderings to a functional reality for the Nutter Fort community.
