Columbus company Pursuit made Amy Acton’s victory speech suit

Ohio Gov.-elect Amy Acton wore a white suit from a Columbus-based company for her victory speech. The suit was made by Pursuit, a Short North-based clothing company founded in 2011.

History! Perhaps the most special suit we’ve made in our 15 years as our dear friend Dr. Amy Acton became Ohio’s first female governor-elect and we got to be in the middle of it all on this historic night. Such an honor. So proud of Dr. Amy & her amazing team.

Pursuit founder and CEO Nate DeMars posted a social media video featuring Acton approaching the podium for her victory speech, accompanied by the aforementioned caption. Pursuit also partners with local sports teams like the Columbus Crew and the Ohio State Buckeyes and has a philanthropic program that donates suits to people in need through local nonprofits.

Who Made the Suit?

The company behind the governor-elect’s suit is Pursuit, a custom clothing company based in the Short North Arts District. DeMars launched Pursuit in 2011. At its 937 N. High St. location, the retailer offers shirts, overcoats, tuxedos, denim, separates, and custom suits by appointment.

The Company’s Philanthropic Efforts

In a Q&A with Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business, DeMars said the idea for Pursuit came from an entrepreneurship class in his final MBA year. On New Year’s Day in 2024, he launched the [Good] Intentions program to donate suits. During its initial two years, the program collaborated with organizations such as Goodwill Columbus, the Harmony Project, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio, the Columbus Urban League, and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio. The company has pledged to donate $50,000 of Pursuit’s merchandise to the cause in 2027.
