Cooler Temperatures and Frost Expected in Kansas City Through the Weekend

“Hang onto your jackets and coats this week!” KMBC reported, and the message is simple: a stretch of cooler-than-normal air will hold over the Kansas City metro through the end of the work week, with highs only reaching the mid-50s under a mix of sunshine and clouds.

The cool-down arrives on the heels of an exceptional warm spell. October 2026 closed as one of the warmest on record for the city, and the National Weather Service in Kansas City says near-normal temperatures will now stick around through the weekend, with highs in the mid- to upper 50s and overnight lows in the 40s.

October’s Record Warmth Gives Way to Sweater Weather

According to The Kansas City Star, Kansas City’s average high temperature in October 2026 was 75.1 degrees, tying 1939 for the ninth-warmest on record, and the average low was 53.4 degrees, tying 1899 for the eighth-warmest.

Patchy drizzle may linger early Wednesday, but it should gradually clear as cooler, drier air moves in, the National Weather Service said. Clouds will stick around most of Wednesday but will clear from the southwest to the northeast overnight. The metro is expected to reach 57 degrees Wednesday, close to the early-November average high of 59 degrees. Breezy, cloudy conditions will make the day feel more like fall.

Morning temperatures will turn cold enough for patchy frost on both weekend days, with lows in the middle 30s, KMBC reported. The Kansas City Star notes that temperatures will likely dip into the low to mid-30s Saturday morning, and the weather service warned that any remaining sensitive vegetation will need protection, though the chance of temperatures falling below freezing that morning is less than 20%.
