Lions Face Roster Crunch Ahead of Dolphins Trip
The Detroit Lions are riding a wave of momentum, but as they prepare to head to Hard Rock Stadium for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, the team is facing a significant personnel challenge. The Lions listed 10 players on their initial injury report, as the team looks to secure its fourth win.
The most pressing concern remains the status of linebacker Jack Campbell. After suffering a neck injury in last week’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings, Campbell was hospitalized. In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, he shared encouraging news, confirming he has full movement in his lower body and is continuing to make progress with his upper body. The report reflects the wider challenges facing head coach Dan Campbell and his staff before kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium.
Lions Manage Injuries During Walkthrough Practice
Because Wednesday’s session was a walkthrough, the injury designations provided by the team are estimates. According to the Lions’ official November 4 practice report, four players—Jack Campbell, center Cade Mays (ankle), cornerback D.J. Reed (hip), and EDGE DJ Wonnum (concussion)—were listed as not participating.
The absence of Mays is particularly notable for the offensive line. Head coach Dan Campbell has previously indicated that the team is preparing Juice Scruggs to step into a larger role, and he is preparing for the possibility of starting against Miami. On the defensive side, Wonnum’s concussion remains a hurdle and Reed’s hip injury also creates concern, leaving the Lions thin at key positions as they attempt to maintain their 5-2 record against a 1-6 Dolphins squad.
Limited Participants and the Road to Recovery
Five other Lions were listed as limited participants on Wednesday, including safety Kerby Joseph, who is dealing with a knee injury. While Joseph was limited, Dan Campbell noted during a Tuesday radio appearance that the safety is not expected to play against Miami, despite plans for him to get some scout team repetitions.
The full list of limited participants includes:

- Brian Branch (DB, Concussion)
- Kerby Joseph (S, Knee)
- Amen Ogbongbemiga (LB, Toe)
- Jacob Saylors (RB, Neck)
- Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR, Rib)
The status of Brian Branch is a focal point for the defensive secondary, as he and Wonnum were both sidelined following a helmet-to-helmet collision during the Vikings game. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Amon-Ra St. Brown with a rib injury is another situation to watch. Cornerback Rock Ya-Sin was the only player on the report to participate fully, despite being listed with cramps.
Dolphins Facing Their Own Personnel Hurdles
The challenge is not one-sided. The Miami Dolphins reported 12 players on their own initial injury report. Miami listed new injuries for running back Kaytron Allen (quad), defensive end Malik Herring (neck), linebacker Chop Robinson (knee), defensive lineman Zach Sieler (shoulder), and safety Michael Taaffe (wrist). Each of these players was limited in Wednesday’s session, while running back Jaylen Wright did not practice. Quarterback Malik Willis was listed with a groin injury but managed to participate fully.
As both teams head into the final days of preparation, the discrepancy between the Lions’ 5-2 record and the Dolphins’ 1-6 start does little to change the reality of the injury report. The coming days will be defined by how quickly these key contributors can clear medical hurdles and return to the field.
