Fargo city offices, libraries and health Clinics to close November 11

Fargo residents heading to City Hall, the public library or the Cass County public health clinic next Wednesday will find the doors locked: the City of Fargo, Municipal Court, all Fargo Public Library locations and Fargo Cass Public Health — including its WIC office and clinic — will all be closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day, and will reopen Thursday, November 12, the City of Fargo reported. Yet the holiday will not interrupt the services residents rely on most every week: garbage and recycling collections will run on their normal schedule, and the Fargo Sanitary Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Facility will stay open during normal hours on November 11.

The split schedule matters for the people who depend on these offices daily. WIC participants who need to pick up benefits or schedule appointments, patients with clinic visits, and residents with business at Municipal Court all need to plan around the one-day closure, while households waiting on garbage day can expect their carts to be emptied as usual. Residents are reminded to place garbage and recycling carts out for collection by 8 a.m. on their normal garbage day.

City buses keep rolling, but NDSU routes shut down

MATBUS is largely unaffected by the holiday. City MATBUS routes and MAT Paratransit service will run normally, and the Ground Transportation Center will remain open, so commuters and riders with disabilities can count on their usual transit. That leaves NDSU students and staff who rely on those campus routes without bus service for the day, a gap city riders will not feel.

Police and fire lobbies close, but protection continues

Public safety buildings will scale back their front desks but not their emergency response. The public lobbies of Fargo Police Department Headquarters at 105 25th St. N. and Fargo Fire Department Station 1 at 637 NP Ave. will be closed on November 11. Full police and fire protection will continue during the holiday, meaning 911 response and emergency services are unaffected even as the walk-in counters are shut.

City Commission meets Monday as scheduled

The holiday will not push back the city’s legislative business. The regular City Commission meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday, November 9, in Commission Chambers at Fargo City Hall, 225 4th St. N., will not be affected by the holiday and will proceed as planned, two days before the closures take effect.

For a city that marks Veterans Day by closing its administrative doors, the message to residents is mixed but practical: plan ahead for health clinic, WIC, library and court needs on November 11, but expect trash day, city buses and emergency services to run exactly as they do any other week.
