Brett McGee receives 68-month prison sentence for child sex crimes
A former Marion County teacher has been sentenced to more than five years in prison following a series of sexual crimes involving a student, KWCH reported.
Brett McGee, 30, received a 68-month prison sentence in Marion County after pleading no contest to multiple charges. The sentence represents the maximum penalty allowed under state statutes, given that McGee has no prior criminal history.
The charges against McGee included two counts of indecent liberties with a child and three counts of unlawful sexual relations. Court documents reveal that the sexual contact began when the victim was 14 years old and continued until the victim reached the age of 16.
Crimes occurred in classroom setting at Peabody-Burns
At the time the crimes took place, McGee was employed as a teacher at Peabody-Burns Junior High and High School. Evidence presented in court showed that some of the sexual contact occurred within a classroom environment.

Beyond his prison term, the court imposed strict long-term legal requirements on McGee. He is required to undergo lifetime post-release supervision and must register as a sex offender for a period of 25 years.
While the current sentencing occurred in Marion County, the legal proceedings for McGee may not be finished. He remains subject to potential charges in three other jurisdictions: Harvey County, Riley County, and Indianapolis, Indiana. The nature of these potential proceedings is significant; if McGee is convicted in any of those other jurisdictions, state statutes dictate he will receive a lifetime sentence.
