Anticipation for these changes grew rapidly after Fantasy Football Fix reported that an FPL graphic briefly appeared on X on 20 July 2026, revealing four specific reclassifications ahead of schedule. While the post was quickly deleted, the leak correctly identified the moves for Myles Lewis-Skelly, Patrick Dorgu, Eli Junior Kroupi, and Omar Marmoush. While this caused confusion, the official list confirmed those four changes were indeed accurate, suggesting the leak may have been published earlier than intended. Although the deleted graphic could not be treated as official confirmation, the changes appeared realistic based on where the players are expected to operate.

Strategic Shifts for Key Performers

Several of these reclassifications are rooted in high-performing breakout seasons. Bournemouth’s Kroupi, for example, moves from a forward to a midfielder after mainly featuring as a No 10 behind centre-forward Evanilson in his breakout Fantasy campaign last season. Despite playing in a central support role, Kroupi enjoyed a prolific 2025/26 by scoring 13 goals over 33 appearances. The Frenchman’s 134.0 minutes per goal was over 50 minutes quicker than Antoine Semenyo, whose average of 188.2 was the fastest among regular starters in midfield last season.

Manchester United’s Dorgu changes from a defender to a midfielder in 2026/27 due to how he was used by Michael Carrick during the second half of the previous campaign. The Dane was limited to only three starts after Carrick took charge in Gameweek 22, but he played as a left winger and scored in all of them. He netted against Arsenal and Manchester City, while he produced a goal and an assist against Brighton & Hove Albion. When assessed against his midfield team-mates Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo under Carrick last season, Dorgu fares well. His 33.2 minutes per shot was the quickest of the trio, while he matched Cunha’s total of three big chances, despite playing over 800 minutes fewer than the Brazilian.

Man City’s Marmoush moves from a midfielder to a forward this season. For Kroupi, the switch from forward to midfielder could boost his appeal, as he would earn five points per goal instead of four, as well as one point for a clean sheet. Conversely, for Marmoush, a move from midfielder to forward reduces his goal returns from five points to four and removes the clean-sheet point he previously received. Managers should still wait for official confirmation, but it now looks increasingly likely that all four position changes will happen in 2026/27.
