The Morning Gabriel Lekron Was Struck in His Own Home
On the morning of October 31, 36-year-old Gabriel Lekron was asleep in his west Wichita home when a night of celebration at a nearby club turned into a scene of violence. As KWCH reported, the disturbance at Naiman’s Clubhouse, located near the intersection of Maple and West, escalated just after 3:40 a.m. when gunfire erupted. Lekron, stirred from his sleep by the sound of heavy pounding on his back door, moved to his window to investigate the commotion. In that split second, a stray bullet tore through the glass and struck him in the face.
His wife, Mariela Lekron, who was also home at the time, described the terrifying realization that her husband had been hit. “We hear gunshots… That’s what causes my husband to look to the window, and that’s when the bullet enters his mouth,” she said. Gabriel managed to stumble out of bed with his mouth bleeding, prompting an immediate dash to the hospital. For Mariela, the fear was absolute. “I did not think he was gonna make it,” she shared. “To think I’d have to live life without my partner, and tell my one-year-old his dad’s not here… My husband is my life.”

Gabriel Lekron is currently recovering, though the incident has left a lasting impact on his family and the wider Wichita community. His survival is something he attributes to a simple turn of his head toward the window, a movement that likely prevented a more fatal outcome. Despite his own survival, Gabriel remains acutely aware of the broader violence that occurred that night. Records indicate that three other individuals arrived at Wichita hospitals on October 31 with gunshot wounds, bringing the total to four people shot during the after-party.
As of November 6, nearly a week after the shooting, the Wichita Police Department reports that no arrests have been made and no new information is available regarding the suspects. The investigation into the incident at Naiman’s Clubhouse remains ongoing.
The Stakes of Urban Gun Violence
For residents in neighborhoods near nightlife venues, the proximity of such violence raises difficult questions about public safety and the regulation of after-party gatherings. While the Lekrons navigate the physical and emotional recovery process, Gabriel has expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received from local churches and his child’s school. “I just wanna say from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate our community for coming forward,” Gabriel said. “I appreciate the churches and my kid’s school. This has been the hardest week of my life and your support has kept me going.”
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of residents who live near venues that operate into the early morning hours without sufficient security protocols. While law enforcement continues to seek leads, the Lekron family remains caught in the aftermath of a stray bullet that fundamentally altered their lives on a quiet October morning.
