Inagh-Kilnamona Dethrones Clare Champions Éire Óg

Éire Óg lost their Clare hurling crown following a heavy 1-24 to 2-14 semi-final defeat against Inagh-Kilnamona on Sunday. Elsewhere in club action, Mayo manager Andy Moran came off the bench to rescue Ballaghaderreen’s senior status, and Kilcoo fell in a Down championship thriller.

Inagh-Kilnamona built an early cushion by leading 0-14 to 0-07 at the break with the aid of a breeze. That advantage proved decisive.

Marco Cleary struck for a goal midway through the second half to pull the Ennis side back within six points. Fred Hegarty responded immediately at the other end to restore Inagh-Kilnamona’s cushion. Although David Reidy added a late goal for the holders, they ultimately finished as the second-best team on the pitch. Kilmaley now await the winners in the final after overcoming Scariff 0-25 to 1-11 on Saturday, marking Kilmaley’s first appearance in a county final in 22 years.

Andy Moran Saves Ballaghaderreen Status in Mayo

Mayo manager Andy Moran made a dramatic intervention in club football, swapping the sideline for the pitch to help Ballaghaderreen preserve their Mayo SFC status. Playing Balla in a relegation final, the 42-year-old entered the game when the score was deadlocked at 0-08 to 0-08 with just over 15 minutes remaining. A late goal from Ballaghaderreen propelled them to a 1-13 to 0-14 victory, with Moran replacing Padraig Walsh.

Burren Stuns Kilcoo in Down Championship Classic

For only the second time since 2012, Kilcoo exited the Down SFC following a knockout defeat, falling 4-16 to 1-20 to perennial rivals Burren in a high-scoring encounter. St Mary’s — the side that handed Kilcoo their only other loss in the 2012 decider — established a dream start when Ódhran Murdock converted two penalties during the opening quarter.

Vinny Corey’s Kilcoo side fought back, taking a one-point interval lead aided by an Anthony Morgan goal. Although the Magpies extended their advantage after the restart, Niall Toner hit the net to draw Burren level. Liam Kerr shone during a frantic final quarter before Ryan Treanor — son of club legend John ‘Shorty’ Treanor — sealed the victory with a fourth goal at the death. Burren advances to face Clonduff in a local derby after Hilltown defeated Carryduff 2-14 to 1-13 on Friday night.

Tullaroan and Tullamore Stay on Track

In the Kilkenny SHC, Tullaroan defeated 2024 All-Ireland finalists O’Loughlin Gaels in a quarter-final powered by superb displays from Padraig Walsh and Shane Walsh. Mossy Keoghan netted a ninth-minute goal to put Tullaroan ahead early, and Ciallin Brennan secured the result with an injury-time major. A late goal from Ruarc Sweeney for the city side offered only a minor scare as Tullaroan triumphed by four points. Elsewhere in Kilkenny, Ballyhale Shamrocks beat Glenmore 1-20 to 0-18, while Bennetsbridge and Thomastown also advanced.

In Offaly, Tullamore continued their four-in-a-row championship ambitions by dispatching Rhode 2-13 to 1-06. First-half and second-half goals from Luke Plunkett and Niall Furlong set the champions up before Aaron Kelleghan scored a late consolation. Ferbane meets Tullamore in the decider after overcoming Shamrocks 2-19 to 3-11, overturning a 3-04 to 0-12 half-time deficit thanks to quick-fire goals from Cian Johnson and Jack Maher.

Galway and Leitrim Championship Results

Leitrim Gaels’ reign as county champions ended via a 3-15 to 0-20 semi-final defeat against Fenagh, St Caillin’s. Despite an early Daniel McLoughlin goal and an eight-point lead for the Gaels at one stage, further majors from Riordan O’Rourke and Oisín McLoughlin sent Fenagh to their first final since 2003. Ballinamore face Fenagh in the decider following a 3-13 to 2-10 win over Mohill anchored by two goals from Brian Leyden and one from Michael McKieran.

Over in Galway, Rob Finnerty scored a hat-trick as Salthill Knocknacarra routed Oughterrard 3-21 to 1-14 to set up a semi-final against Corofin. Reigning champions Maigh Cuilinn defeated Mountbellew-Moylough 3-25 to 0-13, and Damien Comer scored the decisive goal as Annaghdown edged Claregalway 1-20 to 2-16.
