John Gambadoro to take Suns pregame free throw for Foundation donation

Arizona Sports‘ John Gambadoro will take a pregame free throw on Thursday before the Phoenix Suns face the Orlando Magic. The attempt is part of the Gila River Resorts and Casinos First Shot, with a made shot triggering a $10,000 donation to the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation.

Gambadoro, the confident co-host of the Burns & Gambo show who has been on the Arizona Sports 98.7 airwaves for 20 years, is unfazed by the challenge. “I don’t get nervous in stuff like this,” Gambadoro said. “I’ve thrown out the first pitch at Diamondback games, so I don’t get nervous. So I’m not going to be sitting like, ‘Oh my God, am I gonna make the (free throw)?’”

Gambadoro Aims to Hit the Rim

The broadcaster admitted he is not a basketball player, describing himself as “an Italian kid” who is 5’10” and grew up playing sports like baseball, football, hockey, and boxing, but not basketball. He does not recall the last time he shot a basketball. Despite this, Gambadoro set a modest goal for his attempt. “My goal is to hit the rim. I just don’t want to airball it,” he said.

Betting on Success

Gambadoro expressed confidence in his ability to make the shot. “I think I’m a confident person … so if I was betting, I would bet that I’ll make it.” The Suns will host the Magic on Thursday at 7 p.m., following a game against Portland on Wednesday at 7 p.m. All Suns games are available on the Arizona Sports app.
