A New Hampshire man already facing allegations of attacking a state trooper earlier this year now confronts a new set of criminal counts after a separate altercation with a local officer on Oct. 24, according to wmur.com.
The Arrest in Tamworth
The Tamworth Police Department received a call over the weekend from Jonathan Newcomb’s brother. The caller reported that Newcomb was staying at their mother’s house located on White Mountain Highway and requested that authorities remove him from the property.
When a Carroll County deputy arrived at the residence, Newcomb’s mother had already left the home. Court documents show she fled out of fear regarding Newcomb’s assaultive behavior and warned the responding deputy that her son had previously assaulted a law enforcement officer. The deputy subsequently ordered Newcomb to leave the premises.
When Newcomb refused to comply, a physical struggle ensued as officers attempted to effect an arrest. Police stated that Newcomb struck a female officer with an object and bit her during the confrontation. Authorities ultimately deployed a taser, requiring two officers to secure him in handcuffs before transporting him to jail.
New Charges Filed
As a result of the October 24 incident, Newcomb faces several fresh charges. According to court documents cited by wmur.com, the new counts include second-degree assault, breach of bail, and criminal trespass.
These charges compound ongoing legal jeopardy for Newcomb, who was already awaiting judicial proceedings for an alleged earlier attack on a New Hampshire state police trooper in Dover earlier this year.
