Kentucky baseball will open its 2027 season on Friday, February 19, with a three-game road series at South Alabama, according to a schedule released by UK Athletics. The Wildcats face an exceptionally rigorous slate that includes nine games against 2026 College World Series participants and 22 matchups against programs that reached an NCAA regional last season.
The upcoming season represents a massive test for head coach Nick Mingione, who is entering his 11th year leading the program. Since taking the helm, Mingione has secured 326 wins and guided the Wildcats to a College World Series appearance in 2024. This momentum is backed by a roster built through high-level recruiting, including top 10 transfer portal and high school classes during the recent offseason.
The road to Kentucky Proud Park begins in Alabama
After opening the year in Mobile, the Wildcats will travel extensively. UK Athletics reports that the team will play seven road games to start the season, including a midweek neutral-site contest against Louisiana in Pensacola, Florida, and a weekend trip to Southeast Missouri State. The home stretch begins on March 3, when the Wildcats host Morehead State for their home opener at Kentucky Proud Park.
Fans can expect a significant presence at home, as the schedule features 25 games at Kentucky Proud Park. Beyond the local openers, the Wildcats will host Bowling Green from March 5–7 and Missouri State from March 12–14 before the conference grind begins. According to data provided by UK Athletics, the non-conference opponents selected for this period are perennial powerhouses; Louisiana and Southeast Missouri State have each won 30 or more games in five of the last six seasons, while Missouri State and South Alabama have each achieved that mark in four such campaigns.
SEC play features back-to-back road trips and heavy hitters
The Southeastern Conference schedule is designed to test the depth of the Kentucky roster. The Wildcats will open and close SEC play in Lexington, hosting Georgia from March 19–21 and concluding the conference season against LSU from May 20–22. The schedule also includes the annual home-and-home series with Louisville, with the first leg in Louisville on April 6 and the return series in Lexington on April 27.

One of the most grueling stretches for the Wildcats will occur in mid-April. The team is scheduled for its only back-to-back road trips in SEC play, traveling to face defending national champion Oklahoma from April 16–18. Following this road gauntlet, Kentucky returns home to host Florida for the SEC’s signature weekly showcase series, which runs from Thursday through Saturday.
While the schedule is finalized, some slots remain flexible. UK Athletics noted that the program is still exploring the possibility of adding games on March 16 and April 20.
