Light Rain and Mountain Snow Forecast for Parts of New Mexico This Friday

A weak storm will bring light showers and high-elevation mountain snow to parts of New Mexico on Friday, with most communities expected to receive a quarter inch of rain or less, kob.com reported.

Storm Movement Across Western and Central New Mexico

The weather disturbance develops from an upper-level low crossing California and Arizona, dragging enough atmospheric lift into the Southwest to trigger scattered showers. Precipitation starts early Friday afternoon over western New Mexico. Communities including Silver City, Reserve, the Gila region, Gallup, Grants, and the western mountains face the earliest arrival of rain.

By Friday evening, the moisture spreads east and southeast. Showers push toward Socorro, Mountainair, the south-central mountains, Ruidoso, Carrizozo, and parts of southern New Mexico. The Albuquerque metro sits on the northern edge of the system, keeping local rain chances lower than areas farther south, though a few showers could still clip Belen, Los Lunas, and Albuquerque after 4 p.m.

Most locations will stay dry or pick up minimal accumulation. However, a narrow corridor stretching from just south of Clines Corners through Mountainair toward the Socorro-Sierra County area could see slightly higher totals reaching around three-quarters of an inch.

High Terrain in Southern New Mexico Receives Light Snow Accumulations

As the upper-level low drops south Friday night, snow levels will hover between 8,500 and 9,500 feet. The highest terrain in southern New Mexico—particularly the Sacramento Mountains, higher areas around Ruidoso, and Cloudcroft—will see light snow accumulations. Most places above the snow line will pick up a dusting to a few tenths of an inch without causing significant winter weather disruptions.

Showers linger into Saturday morning across southeastern communities such as Roswell, Artesia, Carlsbad, and Hobbs before tapering off by Saturday evening. Meanwhile, aol.com noted that a high-pressure ridge will build back into New Mexico on Sunday, bringing dry weather statewide and warmer temperatures into early next week.
