Lyla Marney wins third individual 2A state cross country title

Lyla Marney secured her third individual title at the Wyoming High School Cross Country State Meet in Cheyenne, clocking an 18:41.3 to win the 2A girls race by a margin of nearly two minutes.

Running on a demanding course that has hosted the state championship for three straight years, the Big Horn High School junior faced the challenge of maintaining her tempo entirely on her own. Big Horn Head Coach Cody Ball noted that the strategy for the rest of the squad was designed to let Marney run her own race while the rest of the team moved across the field. That team approach yielded a historic result, as the Big Horn boys cross country team captured the 2A State Runner-Up trophy, marking the highest finish in school history.

While high school runners wrapped up their state championships in Cheyenne, the University of Wyoming football team used an off week to address structural flaws following a loss to North Dakota State. The adjustments have yielded an immediate statistical shift: the Cowboys enter their next stretch of games plus-three in turnover margin over their last two outings, committing zero giveaways during that span.

The Wyoming squad will return to action on November 7, traveling to face UNLV. The upcoming matchup gives the team a chance to translate their practice improvements into conference play.

Meanwhile, the postseason baseball stage delivered late-night drama as Tampa Bay stayed alive in the World Series by defeating Milwaukee 4-3 in Game 4. The victory came on a two-run rally in the bottom of the 12th inning at home, though Milwaukee still holds a three-games-to-one lead in the series. Game 5 is scheduled for 6 p.m. today in Tampa Bay.
