Mazda Toyota Manufacturing Celebrates One Millionth Vehicle with $120,000 in Community Grants

One Million Vehicles Later, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing Celebrates a Huntsville Milestone

Rolling its one millionth vehicle off the assembly line on October 28, 2026, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing marked a major production milestone in Huntsville, Alabama, while distributing $120,000 in grant funding to local workforce development partners. The joint venture between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation reached the seven-figure mark at its $2.3 billion facility, celebrating the achievement with both of the popular crossover models built at the plant: the Mazda CX-50 and the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Investing in the Workforce Behind the Line

The facility, which has created over 4,500 jobs in North Alabama, used the milestone event to honor the dedicated team members and regional organizations that shaped the plant from its start-up phase to the present day. Erik Skaggs, Senior Vice President for Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, emphasized the collaborative culture built since the plant broke ground.

“Reaching one million vehicles is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the dedication, skill and teamwork demonstrated by our team members every day,” said Erik Skaggs, Senior Vice President for Mazda Toyota Manufacturing. “From the day we broke ground, our team has worked tirelessly to build not only world-class vehicles, but also a culture rooted in collaboration and teamwork.”

To reinforce that local commitment, MTM allocated $120,000 in grants to key educational and training institutions that have supported its workforce. The grant recipients include Calhoun Community College, Kids to Love, Morgan County Schools, and the Alabama Automotive Manufacturer’s Association.

Regional Impact and Economic Footprint

Chip Cherry, President and CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber, highlighted the plant’s integration into the regional economy.

“Mazda Toyota Manufacturing has become an invaluable part of our community and regional economy,” said Chip Cherry, President and CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber. “Through their investment in local organizations, workforce development and regional partnerships, MTM continues to demonstrate what it means to be a great community partner. We are proud to celebrate this milestone alongside the entire MTM team and congratulate them on producing their one millionth vehicle.”

The facility currently assembles the Toyota Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross HEV, as well as the Mazda CX-50 and CX-50 Hybrid. As Team ONE celebrated the production landmark on October 28, 2026, the milestone event served as a reflection on manufacturing scale and a reaffirmation of ongoing regional partnerships across North Alabama.
