The Milwaukee Brewers made a cameo inside Studio 8H during a Halloween episode of Saturday Night Live, bringing members of the team onto the late-night stage.
Fresh off securing the franchise’s first World Series title in its history, players Christian Yelich and Brice Turang joined manager Pat Murphy on the late-night sketch comedy institution. The trio’s cameo during the “Weekend Update” segment served as the backdrop for the return of Bobby Moynihan’s recurring character, Drunk Uncle.
From a Record-Breaking Season to Studio 8H
The appearance capped off a whirlwind week for the organization. After finishing a regular season defined by a franchise-record 103 wins, Murphy’s squad battled through the postseason, dethroning the Los Angeles Dodgers before dispatching the Tampa Bay Rays in five games to capture baseball’s ultimate prize. A massive downtown Milwaukee parade drew over 750,000 fans on Friday, October 30.

During the October 31 broadcast, anchor Colin Jost introduced the segment by highlighting the team’s victory over the Rays. That prompt brought out Moynihan’s character, who immediately leaned into local lore. Drunk Uncle proclaimed that the Brewers’ triumph was a direct result of the power of suds in a city synonymous with brewing.
Moynihan’s character declared on air that his “dream of a beer winning a World Series finally came true. Brewers in 5, baby!” adding that he had been drinking since the night the Brewers won the title and the 57 years before that when the team was founded.
The character then pivoted to lamenting modern baseball. Complaining that recent pace-of-play rule changes have shortened games drastically, Drunk Uncle grumbled that instead of running seven hours, contests now end in 20 minutes before fans head home.
Surprise Cameos and Backstage Merriment
The segment took a surreal turn when Yelich, Turang, and Murphy walked onto the set to convince the fictional commentator that the championship run was entirely real. Turang carried the Commissioner’s Trophy while wearing a home cream-colored jersey, and Murphy sported a World Series cut-off sweatshirt.
“Don’t worry, Drunk Uncle, it wasn’t a dream,” Yelich told Moynihan. Turang quickly chimed in to bond with the character, noting that the players had also been celebrating since Wednesday night. Murphy, the reigning two-time National League manager of the year, added a deadpan self-assessment that drew immediate laughs from the audience: “I’m the manager. That’s kind of like being the drunk uncle of the team.”
Before the segment concluded, Moynihan delivered a parting punchline, squinting at the 6-foot-4 Yelich and telling the Brewers’ captain, “Hey I know you, you’re Pete Davidson.”
The crossover moments extended well past the cameras. Following the broadcast, Murphy, Yelich, and Turang mingled backstage, sharing laughs with actor Tom Hanks—who appeared during the episode’s cold open—and receiving a direct shoutout from host Inde Navarrette during the final credits.
