Minot State men’s hockey secured a 6-1 victory over the University of Mary Marauders on Wednesday night, fueled by a dominant special teams performance that saw the Beavers net five power-play goals. The win serves as a decisive rebound for a team that suffered a shootout loss less than two weeks ago.
Power Play Dominance Breaks Scoreless Deadlock
The game began as a defensive stalemate, with neither side able to find the back of the net during a scoreless first period. That changed just under five minutes into the second frame when Matthew Yakubowski broke the ice, scoring the opening goal with assists from Colby Joseph and Joey Moffatt.

The momentum shifted rapidly from there. Roughly one minute after Yakubowski’s goal, Walker Jerome extended the lead to 2-0 on the first of many power-play opportunities. While the University of Mary managed to claw back briefly with a shorthanded goal about 10 minutes into the second period, the lead was short-lived. Sean Williams answered the Marauders’ effort just 24 seconds later, scoring on a power play of his own with assists from Austin Clyne and Ty Plaisier to send Minot State into the third period with a 3-1 advantage.
Third Period Surge
The final period was a clinical display of man-advantage execution. Minot State added three more goals, all coming via the power play, to put the game out of reach.
- Slade Stanick: Opened the third period scoring with assists from Christian Kadolph and Sheldin Howard.
- Trenton Curtis: Scored approximately six minutes later, assisted by Yakubowski and Jerome.
- Trentyn Crane: Capped the night with his second goal of the game, assisted by Kadolph and Clyne.
Between the pipes, Jase Wareham anchored the victory. Wareham faced 17 shots and stopped 16 of them, finishing the contest with a .941 save percentage.
Upcoming Schedule at Maysa Arena
The Beavers will look to carry this momentum into a home stand this weekend. Minot State is scheduled to host Drury University for a two-game series at Maysa Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
