South Korea stands as the premier destination for American red meat exports, a powerhouse market valued at $2.2 billion in 2025, according to the U.S. Meat Export Federation. Now, Nebraska cattle producers are tapping directly into high international demand through a new direct-sourcing initiative with Coupang Inc.
Direct-Sourcing Infrastructure Opens Asian Markets
Created in partnership with Omaha-based Nebraska Beef Ltd., the initiative marks the Fortune 150 retail and technology company’s first direct-sourcing program for U.S. beef. It creates an immediate export pathway from America’s heartland straight to the world’s top market for U.S. meat.
“Coupang is proud to launch our first direct-sourcing program for U.S. beef right here in Nebraska,” said Coupang chief global affairs officer Robert Porter. “Nebraska ranchers produce world-class beef, and Coupang’s direct-sourcing infrastructure makes it easy for local cattlemen to tap into high-demand international markets, unlock valuable new revenue streams and strengthen American agricultural trade on the global stage.”
Sales of beef categories on Coupang have climbed over 63% year to date in 2026. The retailer previously generated more than $64 million in U.S. meat exports to South Korea in 2025 alone.
Economic Stakes for Rural Communities
Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen emphasized the state’s agricultural foundation while detailing the scope of the new trade avenue.
“Nebraska is home to the finest beef in the world, produced by generations of ranchers and cattle producers who are committed to quality, innovation and stewardship,” said Pillen. “When Nebraska producers have greater access to global customers, it means more growth, more investment and more opportunity for rural communities across our state.”
The program relies on Coupang’s logistics network to move highly perishable goods across the Pacific. Once shipments land in South Korea, customer orders move directly through Rocket Fresh, the country’s leading grocer. This transit efficiency lets American livestock operations ship specialized cuts—including LA-style ribs, oyster blade, and chuck eye roll—that command premium margins in Asian markets.
The arrangement expands on existing collaboration between the e-commerce firm, Nebraska state representatives, the Nebraska Beef Council, and Nebraska Cattlemen. Across its global footprint, Coupang helped drive the export and sale of more than $5 billion in American goods and services across more than 190 countries and territories in 2025.
