Georgia Handles Florida 27-8 in Atlanta Neutral-Site Clash
The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs defeated the No. 17 Florida Gators 27-8 on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, capitalizing on four turnovers and a dominant defensive performance to extend their rivalry winning streak to six games.
Driven by a $1.4 billion renovation at EverBank Stadium, the border rivalry moved to Atlanta for the first time. A crowd of 72,541 packed the indoor venue. The victory improved Georgia to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Southeastern Conference, while Florida fell to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Turning Point in the First Half
Georgia bounced back decisively from a 27-24 home loss to Auburn two weeks prior. The Bulldogs built a 24-0 halftime lead by shutting down the Gators’ offense and converting defensive pressure into points. Nate Frazier opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, followed by a 28-yard field goal from Peyton Woodring and a 1-yard touchdown run by Bo Walker.
The defining sequence arrived with 29 seconds remaining in the first half. Florida quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. was hit from behind by Quintavius Johnson just as he prepared to throw. Linebacker Chris Cole scooped up the loose ball and returned the fumble 66 yards for a touchdown, marking Cole’s second long fumble return of the season following an 85-yarder against Oklahoma.
Florida coach Jon Sumrall addressed the team’s self-destruction after the loss.
I think they’re a really good football team, and I have a lot of respect for them. They didn’t need our help tonight, but we gave it to them, too.
Offensive Struggles and Defensive Pressure
Florida’s quarterback rotation failed to spark an offense that managed just 48 rushing yards on 28 carries. Aaron Philo started his first game since returning from a throwing shoulder injury but was benched in the first half after throwing two interceptions. Tramell Jones Jr. replaced Philo but also struggled against Georgia’s defense.
Georgia held Jadan Baugh to 38 yards on 17 carries. The Gators avoided a shutout in the fourth quarter when Jones scored on a 2-yard run following a pass-interference penalty, and Baugh completed a 2-point conversion pass to Dallas Wilson to bring the score to 24-8. Woodring answered with a 21-yard field goal to secure the final 27-8 margin.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart praised the defensive scheme orchestrated by coordinator Glenn Schumann.
We did what we had to do. We avoided turnovers for the most part and we got turnovers. The Dogs didn’t beat the Dogs today. They helped us with some of the turnovers they had.
Looking Ahead in the SEC Schedule
The annual neutral-site series will move to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, next season before returning to Jacksonville in 2028.

For now, both programs face pivotal tests in the SEC. Florida prepares to host Oklahoma at home, while Georgia travels to face No. 12 Ole Miss.
