NTSB recovers engine piece from Florida Learjet crash investigation

Engine Piece Recovered as Florida Jet Crash Excavation Intensifies

Federal investigators have recovered a portion of the engine from the wreckage of a Learjet that crashed in Florida last week, killing all nine people aboard. The discovery comes as excavation work at the impact site enters a critical phase, with crews continuing to sift through the debris-filled crater in Palm Beach County.

The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed on Thursday that the engine piece and other wreckage were unearthed as investigators worked to pump water from the crash site. The Learjet 60, which departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Sunday morning and was bound for the Bahamas, went down near South Military Trail in Greenacres, Florida, on Nov. 1.

Debris Scatters Across Neighborhood

The recovery effort has been complicated by the scattered nature of the wreckage. The NTSB said debris has been found “away from the impact location,” including on the roofs of nearby homes and buildings. All recovered wreckage is being transported to a secure location for further examination as the agency works to determine the cause of the crash.

Among the nine victims were Austin tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson, 45, his partner Helen Sharp, and their children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2. The pilot, 55-year-old Jeff Gregory, and copilot Nathalia Filgueiras, 20, were also killed.

The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief from family members and friends, who described the Robinson family as “full of joy and adventure.”

The Long Road to Answers

Despite the initial progress, determining what caused the crash will likely take time.
