Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike unveiled a cross-party mobilization strategy, declaring himself field commander for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign in Abuja and Rivers State while incorporating opposition figures into the expanded structure.
Wike Unveils Cross-Party Coalition for Tinubu Re-Election in Abuja
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike unveiled a cross-party mobilisation strategy bringing together leaders from both the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja. Speaking at a stakeholders meeting of the Rainbow Coalition, Wike announced that he would coordinate the president’s re-election campaign in both the FCT and Rivers State.
The gathering brought together party chairmen, current and former senators, National Assembly candidates, and local leaders from the territory’s six area councils. In a notable alignment, the People’s Democratic Party National Assembly candidates in the Federal Capital Territory opted out of competing against the ruling party’s legislative slate, pledging their backing to APC candidates instead.
I want to let all of you know that we are going to work together. Nobody should say, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.

Wike pointed to the 2024 Edo State governorship election as evidence that cross-party cooperation can alter electoral outcomes, arguing that when political stakeholders unite behind a singular goal, traditional party labels become secondary. He asserted that he is in charge of the FCT election and commander of field operations for the territory.
Senate Leadership Hails Coalition As Historic
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele described the Rainbow Coalition as an inclusive campaign leading into the presidential election. Senate Godswill Akpabio noted that including opposition leaders in a presidential campaign council is unprecedented since the return to democratic rule in 1999. During the session, the Senate leader expressed satisfaction that former Gombe State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, would coordinate the Rainbow Coalition in Gombe State.
“Let me note that this is historic since 1999, that a sitting president would constitute a presidential campaign council with other parties included. This shows an inclusive government in terms of unity of purpose. Nigeria is setting an example for Africa.”

The presidential campaign council list includes Wike, a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, alongside Accord Party’s Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and All Progressives Grand Alliance Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Wike is assigned to coordinate the campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, while Soludo and Adeleke will coordinate in their respective states. Defending the appointments during an Abuja media chat, Wike stated that the president exercised wisdom by accommodating political figures outside the ruling party who have contributions to offer.
My thinking is that the president is wisdom. Because there are those who are not members of his political party but have something to offer.

APC Secretariat Dismisses Feud With Governors
All Progressives Congress National Publicity Felix Morka addressed reported friction between the ruling party’s governors and the FCT minister, dismissing the dispute as a false battle. Speaking on television, Morka insisted that no real tension exists because both the Progressive Governors Forum and Wike share an extraordinary commitment to securing Tinubu’s re-election.

Morka explained that the arrangement allows opposition figures to coordinate presidential support in their jurisdictions while voters retain the democratic right to back candidates of their choice in separate legislative and gubernatorial contests. He added that the president’s ability to transcend party divides is a new dawn for Nigerian democracy.
Infrastructure Projects Anchor Re-Election Push
At a separate event in Lagos, Lagos Kadri Obafemi Hamzat commissioned the PBAT/KOH Lagos Central Campaign Office, urging residents to translate voter registration into votes for the ruling party. Seyi Tinubu defended the administration’s economic restructuring at the inaugural Seyi Tinubu Colloquium held at the Eko Convention Centre on Victoria Island in Lagos, urging young Nigerians to take greater responsibility for governance and national development while maintaining that difficult policy adjustments were necessary to reshape how the nation generates revenue for future generations.
