Apple Announces HomePod mini 2 With S10 Chip and AI Integration

Apple announced the HomePod mini 2 at a $149 U.S. price, bringing an Apple S10 processor, five colors, and future Siri AI integration. The compact smart speaker adds computational audio improvements and arrives in stores on October 30, 2026, though advanced assistant features require a companion device.

Apple Prices HomePod Mini 2 At $199 CAD

Canadian buyers will see a price of $199 CAD, up from the original 2020 launch price of $129 CAD and its more recent $179 CAD tier. Apple updated its compact smart speaker line six years after the debut of the original model.

Customers can choose from five finishes: pink, green, blue, white, and midnight. Previous options like yellow and orange did not make the cut for this generation.

Pre-orders opened immediately following the October 13, 2026 announcement, with general retail availability scheduled to begin on Friday, October 30, 2026. Tuesday’s “Welcome Home” event cleared away the feeling that Apple had missed out on the recent upgrade cycle—Amazon rolling out its new Echo Studio and Google launching its Home Speaker over the past year—by debuting the updated hardware alongside the vibrant HomeView smart display.

Powering the device internally, Apple upgraded from the S5 processor to the S10 chip, which first appeared within the Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3, and third-generation SE. The compact smart speaker measures about 4 inches across and delivers rich 360-degree sound from its compact footprint, whether it is used as a single speaker, in a stereo pair, or as part of a multiroom audio setup.

Siri AI Arrives Via Software Update

Buyers opening their boxes on October 30 will find that the upgraded assistant is not active immediately. The headline addition to the second-generation smart speaker is support for Siri AI, something that wasn’t available on the original model.

Apple stated that Siri AI will arrive in a future software update at no additional charge.

Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Home Product Marketing, detailed the assistant’s expanded capabilities during the launch.

“HomePod mini 2 brings together Siri AI, gorgeous new colors, and incredible audio,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Home Product Marketing. “With Siri AI, it understands you better than ever, drawing on personal context and broad world knowledge to make music discovery even…”

Siri AI is English only, and available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. Despite these improvements, the speaker does not run the advanced assistant processing entirely on its own hardware.

Users can have their Siri AI commands handled directly on the hardware itself or via Private Cloud Compute, broadening Apple’s standard privacy safeguards into cloud-based computations. Apple notes explicitly that any information processed through Private Cloud Compute remains strictly private and is neither saved nor accessible to Apple or outside entities.

Surround Sound Pairs With Apple TV 4K

Four compatible HomePod units are configured into designated front and rear pairs to create the system. Among the brand-new capabilities introduced with the HomePod mini 2 is a four-speaker surround sound mode designed to pair with the 2026 Apple TV 4K.

By working in tandem with the updated Apple TV 4K, the quartet of speakers automatically detects their individual locations in the room to optimize audio timing and output levels for the environment.

Purchasing four HomePod mini 2 units totals $796 CAD before taxes, and adding the new Apple TV 4K for an extra $429 (if not already owned) brings the complete entertainment configuration to $1,225 CAD.

The top surface of the HomePod mini doubles as a dynamic visual panel called Sound Glow, which pulses and shifts colors rhythmically to match the music’s bass and treble in real time.

Walking past an active HomePod mini 2 triggers a customized, color-coordinated light display drawn directly from Apple Music’s Now Playing album art for that specific track, while choosing ambient soundscapes like rain activates unique, customized animations designed to create a calming environment.

Interestingly, the company didn’t say how the HomePod mini 2 will interact with its $1599 pro-level Studio Display, which has its own onboard array of six speakers for spatial audio.

Users can assign Apple’s HomePod mini 2 as the primary audio output for their Mac during activities like gaming, watching movies, and handling FaceTime or video calls, offering a viable alternative to internal laptop speakers or dedicated desktop sound systems.

Compatibility requires Macs equipped with Wi-Fi 6E or a newer wireless standard, and the setup accommodates either a standalone HomePod mini 2 or a matched stereo pair.

Operating as a smart home hub, the HomePod mini also enables secure remote or local management of Home app accessories from an iPhone, alongside standard Siri voice commands for answering inquiries, scheduling reminders, and operating Apple Home connected devices. The original HomePod mini launched in 2020 at $129 CAD.
