One Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash Near Downtown Topeka

A Blue Truck Flees the Scene of a Collision Near St. Francis Hospital

A blue truck fled the scene of a collision on Tuesday morning, leaving one person injured just west of downtown Topeka. The hit-and-run occurred around 9:52 a.m. at the intersection of S.W. 6th and Jewell avenues, an area situated near St. Francis Hospital, WIBW reported.

The collision involved a blue truck and a white sport utility vehicle. According to initial reports from the scene, the truck driver did not remain at the intersection following the impact but instead drove eastbound away from the location.

Emergency responders arrived to find the driver of the white SUV still at the site. American Medical Response transported that individual to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Topeka police spokeswoman Kimberly Qualls stated that the injuries sustained by the driver of the vehicle remaining at the scene were not considered life-threatening.

Police Investigation Continues into Tuesday Morning Crash

As of late Tuesday morning, the incident remained under active investigation by local authorities. Investigators are working to identify the driver of the blue truck and determine the circumstances that led to the vehicle fleeing the scene.

While the driver of the SUV has been hospitalized, officials have not yet released any reports regarding serious or permanent injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and more details regarding the identity of the fleeing driver or the specific cause of the collision have not been made available to the public.

The crash at 6th and Jewell stands in contrast to another serious incident reported Tuesday night in York County, where troopers responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on S.C. 55.
