Avery Long is making a strategic shift in his professional career. The young professional rider has officially signed with Phoenix Racing Honda for the 2027 season, anchoring the team’s efforts in the 250SX East Region.
Stepping Up to a Familiar Brand on the East Coast
For Long, the agreement marks a return to familiar machinery after racing Hondas during his standout amateur years. The transition places him aboard a CRF250R across AMA Supercross, Pro Motocross, and SuperMotocross Championships. Back in 2022, Long claimed the prestigious AMA Amateur Rider of the Year award before stepping into the professional ranks.

The 2026 campaign brought its share of hurdles, notably as Long battled persistent illness throughout the year. Even so, flashes of speed kept him fighting inside the top ten during Pro Motocross, with moments pointing directly toward top-five potential. Now, based back on the East Coast with an experienced technical crew, he aims to translate those building blocks into week-in, week-out consistency.
Building a Competitive Program in Salisbury
Operating out of Salisbury, North Carolina, Phoenix Racing Honda is reshaping its 250 program to push further up the standings in 2027. Team Owner David Eller noted that he first crossed paths with Long and his family at Loretta Lynn’s four or five years ago, leaving a lasting impression regarding the rider’s character and work ethic.
“We’re really looking forward to having Avery join our 250 program for 2027. He’s a talented young rider with a lot of potential, but there’s more to him than just what he does on the track,” Eller said.
Team Manager Gary Schlentz echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the grit Long displayed while rebuilding his momentum through the latter half of the 2026 season. The immediate focus for both rider and team centers on preparation ahead of the opening round.
What Lies Ahead for Long and Phoenix Racing
Long will make his official racing debut under the Phoenix Racing Honda tent at Tampa, kicking off the 250SX East Region schedule. With a fresh start, factory support, and a supportive team environment, the target for the upcoming year is clear.
“That’s the level I’m aiming for in 2027, and I believe Phoenix Racing Honda is the right place to help me reach those goals,” Long stated.
