The Suns compete in West Group A alongside the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and Utah Jazz. Phoenix will host Denver and Houston at home during group play while traveling to face Utah and Dallas on the road. Group winners and wildcard teams advance to single-elimination knockout rounds scheduled for December 4 and 5, followed by the semifinals on December 8 and 9 and the championship game on December 11.
Roster Realities and Early Season Adjustments
Entering Friday’s game, the Suns have won one of their three games so far, having recently dropped a 41-point blowout loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Speaking with AZ Family broadcasters Gibby Parra and Charly Edsitty, Suns broadcaster Tom Leander noted that while the season remains young, the team is still working to find its rhythm and footing.

The early rotation challenges are compounded by injuries. Forward Oso Ighodaro and center Mark Williams remain sidelined. Leander specifically pointed to Ighodaro’s absence as a disruption to floor spacing, calling him a crucial piece of the team’s offensive structure.
Despite the slow start and health hurdles, financial stakes loom large over the tournament. Players on winning teams earn more than $500,000 for capturing the NBA Cup, a bonus structure Leander noted provides a tangible incentive, particularly for players who recently signed new contracts.
Technology and Arena Enhancements
Fans arriving at the downtown arena for Friday’s game will encounter a newly upgraded exterior featuring a 9,266-square-foot LED display measuring 226 feet wide by 41 feet tall. Suns and Mercury CEO Josh Bartelstein told AZ Family that the installation—boasting over 17 million pixels and a 60 frames-per-second refresh rate—is designed to serve as a downtown centerpiece for game previews, live highlights, and road-game watch parties.

Inside the arena, the franchise continues its partnership with Seattle-based startup OneCourt to provide tactile broadcast tablets for fans who are blind or have low vision. The device translates live NBA tracking data into vibrations, allowing fans to follow individual plays by touch.
Retail operations at the team shop have also rolled out new inventory for the tournament, including apparel inspired by the Nike-designed NBA Cup court, women’s streetwear pieces from The Wild Collective, and updated merchandise featuring Devin Booker’s new jersey number.
