Starting November 2, the Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) will implement full weekday closures of the Freeport Bridge to facilitate deck repairs. These closures will occur every Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the month of November, severing a link between Sacramento and Yolo counties during business hours.
The bridge, which connects South River Road in Yolo County with Highway 160 in Sacramento County, will remain open to all traffic on Saturdays, Sundays, and every evening after 6 p.m. SacDOT reported that the reconstruction project carries a $300,000 price tag, funded through the Sacramento County Road Fund.
SacDOT Directs Freeport Bridge Traffic to Paintersville Bridge
The Freeport Bridge sits roughly a mile south of Cosumnes River Blvd on the east side of the Sacramento River and about four miles north of Clarksburg on the west side.
Freeport Bridge to close for much of November. What Sacramento drivers need to know https://t.co/E6cXJci0ja
To maintain movement between the two counties, SacDOT is directing all weekday traffic to the Paintersville Bridge. The detour logic is as follows:
- East side travelers: Drivers on Highway 160 or River Road must head south to reach the Paintersville Bridge.
- West side travelers: Drivers on South River Road must also head south to utilize the Paintersville detour.
The shift in traffic patterns may impact those traveling in the corridor between Clarksburg and the Sacramento riverfront.
The Cost of Infrastructure Maintenance
By closing the bridge during the day, crews can perform the repair work.
By opting for a closure from Nov. 2 through Nov. 30, the county is managing the disruption.
Drivers are encouraged to consult the official SacDOT detour map to plan their routes, as drivers are encouraged to give themselves extra travel time due to the weekday detours.
When the bridge goes offline, the cost includes $300,000 from the Sacramento County Road Fund and the extra travel time for drivers detouring to the Paintersville Bridge.
